When we decided to carry these rather large tags, I had no idea what I was going to do with them.  It took me a while, but I finally came up with a rather brilliant idea.  It was actually accidental.  I was rummaging through some papers which were standing up on my desk when a Gift Card fell out.  It wasn’t in an envelope or a box and that’s when it came to me – I should turn these large tags into very, very cool Gift Card holders.  I hope that everyone I give one to loves them as much as I do especially when I put a Gift Card in each one.  If you would like to make some of your own – here’s how…..

  • Pick two co-ordinating pages from your Journal scrapbook pad (not too much pattern on the one for the front)
  • Trace your tag onto each one and cut out.
  • Using your Aleene’s glue, adhere the one that you picked for the front to the card and then use your hole punch to punch out the hole at the top.
  • Do the same with the back.
  • Finding a third piece that looks great with the front of the tag, cut out a rectangle that is 4” across and 2 ¼” high. This will form the pocket portion on the front side of the tag.
  • Use your sponge wedge dressed in brown pigment ink to darken the top edge of the pocket piece.
  • Place a thin line of glue on both sides and the bottom of the pocket (not the top – this is where you will slide in the Gift Card) and glue it to the bottom of the tag.
  • Use your sponge wedge again to antique all edges, front and back.
  • Cut 3 pieces of ribbon, each a little longer than 4”.
  • Glue two pieces ¾ of the way up the pocket keeping them about ¼” apart.
  • Glue the third piece ½ way between the top of the tag and the top of the pocket.
  • After cutting out several embellishments and some sentiments from the journal scrapbook pad, arrange and re-arrange them until you are pleased with the way they look and then glue them down.
  • Attach ribbon through the hole at the top of the tag.

The other two tags in the picture are done in the same manner using different scrapbook paper pads (Passion and Lady Vagabond).  Additionally, on the Lady Vagabond Tag, metallic gears were added to enhance the steampunk look and the paper lace embellishment was added to the top of the pocket.  For the Passion tag we used cotton lace for the top of the pocket.

Well, I’m off to make a few more Gift Card tags to add to my stash and I’m really looking forward to making a few for Christmas, so have a fun crafting day and I’m leaving you with my mantra “try it, you’ll love it”!
